Rachel and Craig recently welcomed their twin boys into the world! Craig planned the perfect proposal for Rachel and their wedding day is planned for 2023. Rachel shared their beautiful story with us:
What can you tell us about the proposal?
“Craig and I had been together since September the year before. We had been speaking through EliteSingles for around a month before we finally met. Over the next couple of months Craig was spending 3 nights a week at my place for dinner, chatting, movies and just general hilarity. We decided by November to move in together. By January we were looking for a “forever home” to mortgage together. In late April we found out we were expecting twins and we were over the moon.
In July, Craig’s best friend was coming to visit us from Poland. I was determined to show him parts of Scotland he hadn’t seen while he stayed here and my favourite place to visit is the Hermitage by Dunkeld. We took a picnic out there and wandered through, collecting “Pooh sticks” to play at the bridge (a game I used to play when I was a child at the Hermitage). We played Pooh sticks over the bridge at the river and I let Craig’s friend take videos of the waterfall, river and lake and took time just to take in the perfection of nature in the place.
Craig called me over and said he needed to ask me something. I walked over and he told me, “Everything about us meeting has been perfect. Soon we’re going to move into our forever home with our completed family and I want to do that with you and be with you forever. I’m asking if you’ll want to do that with me forever. Well…” He got down on one knee and pulled out a ring box that popped open, “I’m asking if you’d marry me.” I swear my heart stopped beating!! In my favourite place of my life, I was being proposed to. I said yes and kissed him in shock still of how he had planned this. I looked properly at the ring and saw the ring I had dreamed of since I was a child, a blue, oval cut sapphire with a smaller diamond on either side, in a gold band with a slant. It was perfect.
In November I gave birth to our twin boys, Alasdair and Blair. We are planning to get married now in 2023 and have already planned to have an open ceremony for our friends and family, followed by a big party to celebrate. We have been on the same page about all our wedding plans so far and we can’t wait to continue spending the rest of our lives together.”
How did it all start? What was your first date like?
“We just clicked on our first date. We had intended to go to a really easy going pub where I live, but we decided to go to a quieter, cosy place instead. We talked constantly, we joked, prodded fun, and didn’t take each other too seriously. We even joked about me being late and given Craig kept having cigarette breaks, about him calling for a “get out quick” SOS from a pal. We talked the whole night, except when I dragged him to a Karaoke bar, but we had fun.
It felt like we’d known each other for years, not a few weeks, and certainly not only been in each other’s company for a few hours. We came back to my flat and talked into the small hours of the morning and Craig came back to my place the next day to chat some more and have dinner at my place. I could really be myself with him and we could laugh and joke. That was what I loved about him from the start!”
What do you like the most about your partner?
“We can be ourselves and not take each other seriously. We promote each other but he makes me laugh even in the hardest of times. He’s supportive, loving and caring and puts me first always. I love that he will just always look to make me smile and laugh.”
What advice would you give to other EliteSingles members still looking for love?
“I had been single for 2 years, looking online for “the one”. I messaged Craig with a smile and then an actual message. He took a chance and paid for a subscription to read the message. We both took a chance and it’s been the best thing I’ve ever done, it’s found me my soul mate. I guess I’d just say not to give up. You will find the one, just keep taking a chance. Open yourself up and take a chance and you’ll find that special someone.”
